I never used to like the original, until I really got into movies a few years ago and watched it again and then, well it just sort of suddenly moves to the top of your Sci Fi chart.

I have the utmost respect for how the movie treated old fans, in that it did NOT bow down to obvious pressure to be a family film. It is respectful and different while obviously a Bladerunner movie, and unlike Scott with his new Alien films, did not titilate to eventually disappoint.

There is little dialogue early on, and the lead actor plays a fabulous brooding role that while nothing like Fords character, is still somehow familiar, slightly lost and tortured!

Some of the actors chosen for other parts are spot on, and simply put if you liked the first film you will love this.

The initial score that makes you feel at home, the environment, the fantasy, the billboards, everything will make you feel at home.

Yes, it's long, but who cares, it is worth it.

The sequel we never knew we really needed.

I would have loved an added hour so that all of the details culminating in the final conclusion could be absorbed without need for the detective's deductive exposition so that we, the audience, might have stood a greater chance of compiling our own theories but, realistically you cannot sell a three hour film to moviegoers these days so, I concede that they did the very best they could with the limitations of film for a story only the medium of literature might convey. In any case, the music was enchanting, the setting detailed, the acting superb, and the story (albeit compressed) most enjoyable. I regret not watching this beautiful movie in IMAX.

Combining Dick's ideas with a technical and artistic mastery created a movie that is watchable over and over for the richness of its details and the poetry of its dialogue. Sequels rarely live up to the original. So, it was with great trepidation that I went to see a sequel of such a masterpiece. I am happy to say that although Blade Runner 2049 doesn't reach the level of the original, it is an excellent film in its own right, as well as a sequel done right. With a myriad of subtle references to the original -in music, visually, and obviously plot, this movie is thoroughly enjoyable by those who intimately know the original and those who don't. You could probably even watch them in reverse order without losing much. Set 30 years in the future from the original and made 35 years later, the aging actors fit the sequel perfectly, The evolution of the setting in California fits the logical conclusions of the original. The evolution of the Replicants also fits perfectly. Most surprisingly, this is not just a rehash of the same ideas, but an extension of the problem of human vs "more human than human" and how the two will interact. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is that there is no "11" for the original.

This is one of the worst 'remakes. Overdramatic portrayals, all w/the added touch of little if any sympathy for the characters being portrayed. What convinced Derek Jacobi and Judi Dench to join this bunch? Most of the scenes shoot on a backlot or digitally created. Duh! Winter train scenes into the tunnel remind me of the Disney child's movie … what was it called? Overwrought screenplay and secondary actors' portrayals are just that. Self-conscious. Conveying an unpreparedness for serious movie-acting and the rigors of performing as part of an ensemble w/renowned actors far advanced in their careers. Michelle P is laughable, but she always has been. Loved her poorly affected accent in the Russia House way back. Even Branagh overplays his part without nuance or guile to suggest he knows he's up against a very convincing character actor (two, in fact) who fashioned the screen role of Hercule Poirot years ago. And then she sings to make matters worse! If you have nothing to do and never saw the 1974 film, go for it. Be prepared to be disappointed and unconvinced.
